Healing Ministry at
St. James's

Society for Psychology & Healing

How the Healing Ministry began:
Beverly Martin continues:

"At Donald Reeves' invitation, I started the first prayer group for healing and meditation in September 1981, at
Michaelmas.

The group was held in the Church itself, in the area in front of the altar.  Some people say that this is a sacred place as they have sensed that two major ley-lines intersect at this point.  Certainly the energy in the groups was at times incredibly beautiful and  powerful.

Over the coming weeks and months, a core  of about seven regulars made up the group. We were all fairly experienced in meditation, and prayed for Light, and for guidance with the direction of the group.  As convener, I was especially aware of a sense of some responsibility for this and that there was a need just to trust that guidance would be given and to wait in the Spirit prayerfully.

One of our members was James Williams. A poet and Quaker, James came to the group every week for nine months, after which he passed away peacefully.  I always felt that he gave this time of 'birthing' to us at the end of his life and that it was an incredible privilege for us.  Another wonderful and enduring member and friend was Mary Spain, also a poet, Druid and writer.  The support, insight and commitment from James, Mary and Donald cannot be under-estimated--it was from this commitment that the ministry was able to develop and unfold."
